need book loan for research

Post by genstab »

Hello, Feldgrau members-
Does anyone have the English language edition "Ill Used Infantry" by Gen. Maximilian Fretter-Pico? I have a manuscript that's near going to press and want to read this one last book to see if it gives me any useful O/B info. I'd like a loan and you'll be sure to get it back intact. My references are Col. David Glantz, David the Evil Commissar, Shadow/Snoopy and Tom Houlihan, a Moderator on this forum. Can anyone help me out?

Best regards,

Have you tried locating a copy through interlibrary loan ?

What is the book about ? Fretter-Pico had a variety of experiences, didnt he ?

Yes, I tried interlibrary loan first thing as I always do with a hard to locate book. No luck. I don't really know what the book covers but as Gen. Fretter-Pico commanded everything up to an Armee-Abetilung I would think the book would give me something I could use This book was on te used book search sites until several months ago but around the time I could afford to poursue it I can't find it anywhere.

Worldcat shows a dozen major US lending libraries holding Fretter-Pico's book - Missbrauchte Infanterie, 1941 - 1944. dated 1957.

I'm 99 per cent certain that there's no English translation of Fretter-Pico; one was planned by these folks

One of many German books which they were going to print but never did. There's certainly no record of it in the British Library, and Shelf haven't produced anything in years. :[]

The books held by the 12 American libraries are in German. The original book, printed in 1957.

About a ayear ago I saw some pricey copies of "Ill Used Infantry" advertised on Addall and Campusi. It isna't listed in English in World Cat though. I may have to just get the German edition thru interlibrary loan as it's probably obtainable.

Are you looking for some of his experiences ? He authored at least 2 FMS documents.

don't know that his FMS manuscripts would be as helpful as the book. Could someone who has the German edition let me know whether there is much O/B info in it- transfers of divisions between Corps and disisions under each Corps at specific times, etc.?
