To the Caucasus and the Austrian Alps: The History of the 23. Panzer-Division in World War II, Dr. Ernst Rebentisch, 520 pages , $75. Author served in this Division’s Panzer Regiment for 3 years, ending the was as a Major. He used many of his own photos, including those of his brother’s funeral. His brother led a Panzer Zug in the same regiment. One of the best unit histories from JJ Fedorowicz, as it included not only day to day details drawn from unit’s Kreigstagebuch, but also individual battle vignettes, and comments on the war situation in the area of 23. Panzer Division’s neighbors.

In My Brother’s Shadow, Uwe Timm, 150 pages, $5. Author’s brother was a Pioneer with 3rd Ss Totenkopf in Russia. He kept a diary, against the regulations, which was sent back to his family after his death in Russia in 1943. Book consists of the diary and the younger brother’s recollections of his sibling.
The Day of the Panzer, Jeff Danby, 300 pages, $10. Story of one American infantry company in the month following the invasion of Southern France in 1944. ‘The Day’ refers to their battle against a German force including one Panther in the town of Allan. The Germans were a rearguard from 11th Panzer Division tasked with delaying the Americans while the German 19th Army fled northeast. A very well written account.

The Memoirs of SS Sturmbannfuhrer Rolf Schiller, R. Schiller, 2006, 500 pages, $10. Schiller had both police and combat assignments, starting with the French campaign. In 1948, he was convicted of war crimes by a Polish court and sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.
