B29 Bombers in ETO

Post by Helmut »

Servus,
Were B29 Bombers ever employed in the ETO? I saw a picture in a book some time ago, of a B29 which supposedly was in the ETO. It seems that this would have been an awful waste since the B29's range was not needed in Europe and could be employed to much greater effect in the Pacific.

Any thoughts?

A categorical "no" on this.

One (1) was sent to the UK on a goodwill/disinformation jolly....but that's all it was ;)

Use in the ETO would have meant extending and metalling EVERY runway on every field they would use or divert to, a HUGE expense and undertaking.

Thank you for the information. Your info comes as no surprise. Just verifies what I thought but I wanted to confirm.

I guess the picture in the book was mislabeled

Thanks again and have a great holiday weekend.
