Hello to all :D; more follows.......................

Gr Wartenberg 1939.

Polish troops were part of the 10 DP (General Dindorf-Ankowicz) deployed on the right wing of the Lodz Army (General Juliusz Rommel). The 28 psk occupied the Defensive Sector No. 1 in the northwest of the province. Further south stood the Defensive Sector No. 2 occupied by the national defense battalions Wielun 1 and Wielun 2. The Independent 92. Light Armored Reconnaissance Company was to operate along the route Wieruszow - Sokolniki.

Both battalions reached the region of Ostrzeszów during the night of 30 to 31 August 1939. The III. Battalion occupied positions in Doruchów area, while the II. Battalion was deployed in the Rojow area, like a company of the National Defence Battalion. The CP of the II. Battalion was established in the ancient manor of the landowner Mr. Jarmusz, there was the Battalion Commander kpt. Witkowski.

While having taken part in the occupation of the rest of Czechoslovakia in March 1939, the German 24. ID was transported in August of that year to around Militsch.

On September 01, 1939 the Polish soldiers were alerted and took their defensive positions located a few hundred meters of the first houses. The trenches were built on both sides of the road Kobyla Góra / Haideberg - Ostrzeszów / Schildberg; ahead of them ran an antitank ditch.

Nearby it was located a church, which later, as a result of the fighting, suffered broken windows and damaged on its facade.

At 04:45 hours - the Germans crossed the Polish border and removed the barrier located on the road between Gr Wartenberg / Syców and Schreibersdorf / Pisarzowice. The IR 32 and the IR 102, belonging to the 24. ID crossed the Polish border by Rojow / Schildberg, while the IR 31 did so by Antonin.

Gr Wartenberg 1939.

War.

The German vanguard pressed into Ostrzeszów / Schildberg. At the same time the Leader of the 4. Company of the II. Psk 28th Battalion, por. Stanisław Wróbel sent a scouting party through Bierzów towards Kobyla Gora.

Around Bierzów the Polish patrol clashed with German troops and there were casualties on both sides. According to Polish sources, two Polish scouts were captured and shot on the spot by German soldiers.

At 09:30 hours in the woods near Rojow patrol of border guards from Kobyla Gora opened fire on a German motorcycle with sidecar, a German was killed and the motorcycle turned back (Major Kleinau died here?).

At 10:00 hours taking in account what happened shortly before, the Germans attacked the Polish position ahead of Rojow with mortar fire and a guard was wounded in the arm.

Gr Wartenberg 1939.

War.

From 11:00 hours till 15:00 hours had developed a defensive fighting on the line Szklarka Myślniewska - Rojów – Olszyna; in the fighting took part forces of the 4., 5. and 6. Companies of the II. / 28 pp which held the position by force of its arms. The Germans sent a reconnaissance aircraft to verify the enemy deployment and the Poles opened fire on it with their rifles.

At noon and advancing by Rüdelsdorf, Distelwitz, Groß-Wartenberg the II. / AR 66 headed towards Schildberg. In Rudelsdorf came to the artillery unit the news that the commander of the artillery group (Abteilung), Major Kleinau, was killed in action during a reconnaissance. As of September 7, 1939 assumed command Oberstleutnant Leopold Drieshen.

At a height near the church of Rojow were emplaced two guns of small caliber (antitank cannons of 37 mm?) Which opened fire against the Polish positions.

At 15:00 hours the commander of the Polish battalion ordered the withdrawal towards the Prosna by Grabow.

Following these orders the 4. and 5. Companies withdrew by the left and the 6. Company by the right of the town and continued its retreat eastward.

Before leaving the farm, Mr. Jarmusz asked to burn two stacks of rye that were near the main house in order to prevent them falling into enemy hands.

Hello to all :D; a new story on this topic......................

The march of the XVII AK on Bielitz...........

The XVII AK (General der Inf Kienitz) comprised the 7. ID, the 44. ID and the 45. ID under the 14. AOK of Generaloberst List. The Army Corps was, jumping out of the area-Mistek Friedek, to cross the Olsa and move towards Krakow with the 44. ID to the left and the 45. ID to the right, in turn the 7 ID was to attack on the region of Jablunka Pass.

Here defended the Polish Army "Cracow" (General Szylling) which among other missions, should retain the main line of defense which ran along the line Mikolow - Pszczyn - Bielsk - Zywice and thus covering Krakow. So the 21. PDG was located between Bielsk and Zywice in order to protect the approaches to Krakow from the SW. The Polish Division, together with the 6. DP and the Infantry Brigade "Zywiec" were part of the Grouping Boruta-Spiechowicz.

The approaches to Cieszyn / Teschen from the south and west was defended by the I. / 4 psp (mjr. F. Perl), supported by a group of the 21 pal (100 mm) and its own regimental group (75 mm) . According to the orders the Polish battalion should withdraw from Cieszyn / Teschen when the enemy concentrated its forces against the town.

The march of the XVII AK on Bielitz...........

At 04:00 hours on September 1, 1939 came the first reports from the border about the invasion of German troops. At that time was particularly active the Polish Reconnaissance Company, which lost its Leader, ppor. F. Szydlar.

At 15:00 hours the 21. DPG (Mountain Infantry) issued the order to retreat from Cieszyn by Skoczów to Bielsk. After blowing up the bridges over the Olsa (15:10 hours) the Polish battalion regrouped on the line Ogrodzona - Goleszów and the first contacts with German regular troops occurred at 16:30 hours.

Hello to all :D; more follows......................

The march of the XVII AK on Bielitz...........

On September 02, 1939 the Army "Krakow" retreated to the line Zawierce – Zabkowice – Przemsa – Sola. Although at midnight was reluctantly allowed to fall back on the Nida and Dunajec. Elements of the Freikorps (about 214 people in total under command of Ernst Lanz) launched attacks against troops and Polish inhabitants in the city but were arrested and killed by troops of the 4. psp commanded by ppłk Bronisław Warzybokow. Polish soldiers and civilians attacked in turn the ethnic German inhabitants of neighboring villages.

The defense of Bielitz/Bielsko was only symbolic since the Army "Cracow" withdrew from the city without a fight, surprised by the quick movement of German troops and the resistance was left to volunteers and scouts. Of course these elements had no chance against the regular troops of the Wehrmacht and so on September 03, 1939 the Army "Krakow" was in full retreat and the capital of the Lower Beskids fell into German hands occupied by the 45. ID.

The march of the XVII AK on Bielitz...........

The unit responsible for the defense of this region, the 21 DPG (dywizja piechoty górskiej - mountain infantry division) of General Kustron later distinguished itself in the campaign during the fighting by Oleszyce, fighting precisely against the 45. ID.

The most intense battles were fought in the region of Węgierskiej Górki, sector that was attacked by the 7. ID and where the defenders, taking advantage of the fortified positions built there, resisted the German advance for three days.
