Meeting Day Badges

Post by Troy Tempest »

Better known as tinnies, these were extremely popular during the Third Reich, along with WHW items, there are over 12,000 listed in one of my reference books alone. I'll start off with my 1934 May Day (RVP21) tinnie. These were issued on the 1st May every year from 1934-1939. The early tinnies had Tag der Arbeit (Day of Work/Labour Day) on the badge, as well as the date, and were produced by large numbers of firms. Many were marked on the rear with the maker, many were not. This one was produced by Reichsverband Pforzheim No21.

Here is another May Day tinnie, this one is the 1935 May Day tinnie from the makers A RETTENMAIER SCHWÄB GMÜND. Tinnies were often designed by well known artists and featured excellent relief work.

Here is a 1936 May Day badge, this was the first year that Tag der Arbeit was not featured on the May Day badges. This practice continued until the last May Day badge was made in 1939. After the war started, no more May Day badges were produced. This one is made by the firm BESSON GMUND. The 1936 1.Mai badges have a Tieste number of T36-01.
