Hello to all :D; more information about it ................................

In the context of the Battle of Uman - July 1941.

According to the statements of the prisoners, on July 17 and 18, 1941, the SS-Germania attacking in the direction of Taraschtscha on both sides of the advance road encountered resistance from the 97th Rifle Div. in particular Rifle Reg 69 and the Comm. Btl. 47. The other rifle regiments, 136 and 233 (according to the declaration of a prisoner), did not take part in the fight, had already been displaced, by orders of the division, in the direction of Ssinjawa. Later should also follow Rifle Reg. 69

In the Ssinjawa area there was also the Command of the VI. Rifle Corps. According to the declarations of the prisoners, the regiments 136 and 233 participated in the later defensive battles against the German regiment SS-Germania.

The 97th Division was already quite battered by the previous battles. According to the writings, like the statements of the prisoners, the division was led by Colonel Zakharov.

On July 18, 1941, in Pugatjovka and Osstroff the 41st Rifle Division came into combat, which was in movement from Rokitno to Oljschaniza. (Declarations of the members of RR 139, 244, 102 and of AR 132, as well as Eng. Btl. 58). The Rifle Reg. 139 suffered many casualties according to the statements (some 300 dead and wounded) due to the fighting with a German armored unit in Skwira and would have only a manpower of around 1,000 men.

On July 20, 1941, on the SS-Wiking front, south of Kardany was the Cav. Reg. 34, belonging to the 3rd Cav. Div. In addition, on the same day in the forest southeast of Taraschtscha also appeared the Rifle Reg. 617. Initially it was only the II. Btl., Which had been transported in trucks from Boguslaw. East of Taraschtscha was the Rifle Reg. 492

On July 21, 1941 the enemy launched his attack by Kardany towards Taraschtscha. Aerial reconnaissance reported the concentration of about 30 tanks. The division (SS-Wiking) requested a Stuka attack that was unleashed at sunset with good results ..........................

Hello to all :D; more about it ................................

In the context of the Battle of Uman - July 1941.

Also on July 22, 1941, the day began with intense artillery fire on the entire defensive front of the division in Taraschtscha. Then followed a furious attack on the I. / SS-Germania and both adjacent sectors. The last reserves were engaged and managed to close the gap at the front. Early in the morning the Stukas supported the heavily pressured infantry in the defensive struggle by making raids on Kirdany and Rokitno and the wooded area to the north and northwest of the latter town.

On July 22, 1941, in the south wing of the division, in the forest east of Lissovichi and Potoki (north of Lubianovka), there were also the I. and III. Btl. of Rifle Reg. 617, therefore the entire regiment was concentrated. The last two mentioned battalions were brought from Boguslaw on the Boguslaw - Luka - Taraschtscha road the night before and were used on July 22 at 10:00 hours. The Rifle Reg. 617 belonged to the 199º Rifle Div., which was in Boguslaw and whose Rifle Reg. 492 also participated in the fight in Taraschtscha that day. The Rifle Reg. 492 was ordered to avoid Taraschtscha by the south and then attack along the advance road in Belaja-Zerkowj.

As indicated later in the statements of the prisoners, should also attack the 3rd and 14th Cavalry Divisions in Belaja-Tserkov with the same order. This statement was complemented by the recce of the Kampfgruppe Stolz, which took place on July 21 in Berezanka, Velikaya-Volynanka and Malayanka which reported enemy cavalry units and also by the attack of 2 - 3 squads on July 22 in the south wing the III./SS-Germania from the direction of Berezanka.

Also on July 22, 1941, it was affirmed that there were the 14th Cav. Div. with 4 regiments (76, 92, 39 and 129, in the sector Taraschtscha - Krivas and the 3rd Cav. Div. with 3 regiments (34, 60 and 159) to the west of Bolkun on both sides of the Kotluga stream. The two divisions had the task of encircling Taraschtscha and attacking towards Belaja-Tserkov. After this attack on the SS-Wiking Wiking division was not carried out, both divisions of should keep its positions. The prisoners were not aware of an order to withdraw both divisions, according to the statements of the prisoners, only parts of this division should be replaced to remain as a reserve in the depth of their sector..........................

Hello to all :D; more about it ................................

In the context of the Battle of Uman - July 1941.

Nevertheless these were the last acts against the flank in the sector of the encirclement that defended the 1. Armored Group, since the troops of the III. AK (Mot) approached the battlefield pressing against the enemy's flank and rear. Around noon on July 22, 1941, artillery fire decreased on the northern front of the division (SS-Wiking) and the infantry attack stopped. The SS-Wiking now can finally shake up the opponent and the General Command of the XIV. AK (Mot) can throw to the combat in direction of Uman to the 9. Pz retained to the southeast of Belaja-Tserkov. While the SS-Wiking Division Command Post was moved to Potoki and continued the attack of the Gefechtsgruppe (Combat Group) Stolz to the southwest of the enemy wing that was launched already since the morning of July 22.

While the SR 33 crushed the enemy cavalry in front of the Gefechtsgruppe Stolz by an attack launched from Jushkorog towards Beresjanka. The heights between Beresjanka and Koshewalnij were cleared of adversaries. Light patrols of the 15./SS-Westland secured the wing and flank of the combat group in the attack. It was also necessary to execute a second attack of Stuka aircraft that was effectively fulfilled.

In summary, in the section of the Kotluga in front of the Combat Group Stolz, attacking towards the northeast and from July 25, 1941 of the Combat Group Scholz attacking by Luka towards Boguslaw, except parts of the 3rd and 14th Cavalry Divisions, found the 199th (Rifle Reg. 617, 492, parts of the 584 and the 1. AR 147) and the 227th (Rifle Reg. 689, 789, 794, 678 and the mixed AR 145) Rifle Divisions, also the 353 and the Eng. Bat. and a Signal battalion as new troops.
