SS Unit Formations And Organization

Post by jward43936 »

Does anybody know how the SS organized their units? Like, I know for the Heer they had Gruppe, Schutzenrhie Schutzenkette, and Zug, Kompanie, Abteilung, etc. But didn't the SS have a different version of all that and with different numbers? If anybody has information please comment it I can't find anything.

Hello:
The organization was the same; just different terminology. Up until 1940 the Waffen SS used the following terminology for their sub-division level units:
Rotte-section
Schar-squad
Trupp-platoon
Sturm-company
Sturmbann-Battalion
Standarte-regiment

One SS Rotte = between 4 and 8 men
One SS Schar = Between 5 and 15 men
Normally one SS Schar = 3 SS Rotte.

Apoliges please!!!!
For the SS Rotte you must read between 4 and 5 men, not 8.
I think, but I am not sure that the organization of those units begun in 1923 and was in use till the fall of the III°Reich.

I did not say well in the previous interview. I mean, when the terms 'Schar, Sturm, Standarte' were replaced in the SS units, by the usual military terms platoon, company, regiment, and so on.
