Hi Nimitz,

If you can't find any of the Altmark, she had several sister ships of the Dithmarschen class. I think there is a profile on the net somewhere.

Cheers,

Sid.

Hi Nimitz,

I may be wrong about the Altmark being a sister ship of the Dithmarschens. In any event, try this link:

http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/ ... index.html

There does exist a famous photo of Altmark in a Norwegian fjord being boarded from a British destroyer. However, it is agood few years since I last noticed it.

Cheers,

Sid.

Hi Nimitz,

It transpires that Altmark was renamed Uckermark and WAS a member of the Dithmarschen class. You will therefore find details of her at the above link.

Also, for you photos, try:

Hi Nimitz,

If you look further on the net there is a very substantial history of the Dithmarschens. They were designed to refuel and resupply German surface raiders, which is why they were built as a class. There were to have been nine of them, three per pocket battleship. I think only five or six were completed. They employed very advanced sea transfer facilities of a standard only the US navy later developed for the Pacific War. The British, having naval bases all over the world, were far behind in this speciality.

Cheers,

In fact, Altmark is to add on a paper about Graf Spee and the battle of Rio de la Plata.
I've already the profile of the pocket battleship and Exter, Altmark is a "bonus"
I've got two maps :
1 of the all travel and another of the battle

If you're interested with by what i've made, join me by mail
