Hello to all :D; more..............................

Women who received the Iron Cross 2nd Class - DRK (German Red Cross) nurse Elfriede Wnuk!

(February 15, 1916 in Mingfen, district of Osterode/East Prussia; August 16, 1999 in Osnabrück)

On September 19, 1942, she was the second German woman to be awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class. The 26-year-old sister was deployed in a rear section of the Central Eastern Front and was so badly wounded by shrapnel in a Soviet air raid that her leg had to be amputated. Before Elfriede Wnuk only Hanna Reitsch had received the EK II.

Hello to all :D; another photo.............................

Women who received the Iron Cross 2nd Class - The third woman with the EK. DRK (German Red Cross) nurse Marga Droste awarded in Gau Weser-Ems.

Berlin. Nov. 25. The Führer awarded Sister Marga Droste the Iron Cross 2nd Class for her heroic service in the enemy terrorist attack on the naval town of Wilhelmshaven instead of the War Merit Cross with Swords that she had applied for.

Sister Marga, who, after Hanna Reitsch and Elfriede Wnuk, is the third woman in this war to receive the Iron Cross as a soldier, rescued a number of seriously wounded soldiers who had just been operated on from a department of a Kriegsmarine hospital, despite heavy anti-aircraft fire and explosive and incendiary bombs falling all around them.

The brave woman was wounded as she dutifully endured the enemy fire. The Commanding General presented her with the award on behalf of the Führer during a roll call at the naval hospital, together with a letter of congratulations from Grand Admiral Raeder. Sister Marga is the first German woman who received the Iron Cross for her actions in a British air raid.
