Poles captured at Boulogne on 18/09/1944

Post by lozynski »

Hi everyone
A very long time ago I posted plea asking about Poles being in the German Army, in particular finding out info regarding my Polish Grandfather being conscripted.
I have since contacted the Ministry of Defence who gave me loads of info and my Grandfathers military service records which show he was in conscripted into the German army. I was even luckily enough that the MOD even sent me his Soldbuch book. Looking through I see he was initially in the 226th Reserve Grenadier Battalion on 08/10/43, then the 208th and finally formed into the 79th Reserve Grenadier Regiment.
Translating the Soldbuch I see he was training in Metz
I understand he was captured by the Canadians in Boulogne, France on 18/09/44.
I have tried looking for any information regarding this battle or what 79th involvement was but I just can't seem to get any info on this.
Could anyone assist or point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.
Kind regards

The Intelligence Summaries for the II Canadian Corps sometimes contain POW information or information on German units.

Nice to get hold of his original Soldbuch, lucky it had not been destroyed...
