Hello to all :D; after a while here goes what I could grasp out there...................

The 137 ID in Operation Barbarossa - 1941.

The 137 ID was organized on October 10, 1940 in the Training Ground of Döllersheim (WK XVII) as a unit of 11. wave, taking a third of the 44 ID, a third of the 262 ID and horse-drawn parts of the 18 ID which had been motorised. Its commander was Generalleutnant Friedrich Bergmann (formerly with the 27 ID, which became the 17 Pz). It was composed of the following units: IR 447, IR 448, IR 449, AR 137, Pi Btl 137, Pz Jäg Abt 137, AA 137 and NA 137.

In the period from 11 to 16 July 1941 the 137 ID marched unopposed by Borissow towards Orscha. The highway Minsk - Moscow was assigned for the supply columns of the armored corps, therefore the infantry marched through the sandy secondary roads and for the first time the cyclists companies advanced at the same pace that the troops marching on foot.

Hello to all :D; more follows...................

The 137 ID in Operation Barbarossa - 1941.

After annihilating the encirclement of Minsk, the 2nd Pz Group reached the Dnieper River where the Soviets had established a new defensive line about 180 kilometers ahead of the division, this Pz Group managed to establish four bridgeheads over the river south of Mogilew , at Schklow, at Kopys and Orscha, the 137 ID was committed towards Orscha. In order to protect the flank of the armored divisions were organized from July 8, 1941 onwards, a blocking unit (sperrverband) under command of Oberst Usinger (Commander of the AR 622) composed by Pz Jäg Abt 137, the 3. / Pi Btl 137 and parts of the schw. AR 841 with the task of blocking from the highway leading to Moscow towards the east.

This element was the first aid to Generalmajor Streich who assured Orscha with elements of the 17th Pz (Sperrverband Streich). On 16 July 1941 Generalleutant Bergmann was ordered to secure Orscha and break the Soviet resistance north and south of the city. The cyclists Companies belonging to the infantry regiments, the AA 137 and the 1. / IR 447 transported by trucks moved towards the site.

The 137 ID in Operation Barbarossa - 1941.

The AA 137 and the Pz Abt Jäg 137 rejected an enemy attempt to breakthrough and penetration was eliminated by the 3. / Pi Btl 137 by means of a counterattack; in this action was seriously injured Oberleutnant Reichsgraf v. Merveldt (Chief of the 2. / AA 137). While Hauptmann Hübner (Ib) arranged transportation for the III. / IR 447 in two columns of the Chief of Supply Trains, this battalion was moved 63 kilometers and reached the southern suburbs of Orscha on July 17, 1941 in the morning.

The Sperrverband Usinger, with the III. / IR 447 as assault troops, attacked south at 20:00 hours; in subsequent raking actions were captured 150 prisoners in exchange for 14 casualties. This clarified the situation south of the town and the enemy retreated from the north without struggle; Orscha fell into German hands.

The 137 ID in Operation Barbarossa - 1941.

On July 19, 1941 at 22:00 hours the AA 137, marching as a vanguard of the division, reported enemy contact south of Dubrowka in the wooded area on both sides of Borodino. The IR 448 was detached from the column of march and attacked towards Borodino on July 20, 1941 at dawn. On this day the Sanitary Company 1. / 137 evacuated up to 348 wounded soldiers (70% of the IR 448). At 11:35 hours the IR 449 pressed into Barsuki (to the north), while by radio it was requested the 292 ID, marching farther south, to attack due north with part its forces. At 13:17 hours the IR 447 moved to the south of Borodino. The AA 137 was ordered to advance against the enemy east of the Rossasenka, while the Pz Jäg Abt 137 should establish a blocking position on the Rossasenka behind the enemy which fought around Borodino. When Pz Jäg Abt 137 took its position, the AA 137 continued the advance towards the East and Southeast.

The 137 ID in Operation Barbarossa - 1941.

At 16:00 hours and after an intense fight of seven hours, the IR 449 was able to break through the wooded area north of Jukowo. In these struggles distinguished itself, for the fire support which provided, a battery of heavy guns sK 18 of the I. / AR 109. The final gap eastbound was closed in Salatowschtschino by the II. / IR 447 reinforced by the cyclist company of the IR 447 and the 2. / Pi Btl 137. Other scattered groups of Russians were killed on July 22, 1941 north of the road by the HQ Battery of the AR 137 and on July 23, 1941 in Kosjany by the Pz Jäg Abt 137, the Pi Btl 137 and cyclists companies of the infantry regiments. It was achieved a huge success, being annihilated the mass of the Soviet 18. Rifle Division and parts of the Soviet 73. Rifle Division.
