The Edelweiss symbol as favicon?? maybe you should ask Jason first... In my humble opinion it is not the best choice. waleed But it is in my opinion. Let's create a poll about it. (snipped) The movie sure looks interesting, and I might buy it. I have never seen it advertised for sale or rental over here in the UK.(snipped) Well you can always order it from Amazon.com and have it shipped to Europe. Or download it off of Bittorrent, which is something I personally wouldn't do ...

Best,

I have heard that the Fallschillmjager would wear the Edelweiss ocassionally, and at least one U-Boat used it as a symbol for their crew specifically on the sidcap. At the sime time, the white Stalhelm was a symbol for the Grossdeutchsland Division. So, surprisingly, the Edelweiss actually represen...

During the Second World War, German soldiers occasionally pinned edelweiss flowers to their uniforms. The flower was supposed to be the sign of a "true soldier" in the Wehrmacht as it grows only in rugged terrain, generally above the tree line. Gotcha. I guess that still limits it to the ...

I wonder why that is, I get most favicons in Safari (which i...

Favicons? Emoticons? Why? They don't seem to add anything of substance, yet, by their colourful nature, disrupt the visual continuity of threads. Call me an old puritan, but they all look like diversionary self indulgence to me. Cheers, Sid. Well, they don't necessarily add anything "of substa...

I can just add the little icon is much better visible in fact, than here, because it is gray and the forum has a gray background, either. You can see it clicking this link http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v252/Musashi-san/edelweiss-klein.png and it will appear on a white background and even in the...

Re: Information from a single letter?

I have only a single letter from one of my uncles, there is no discernible Feldpostnummer on it, only a postmark from Crailsheim on December 18, 1942. I believe he was in a Luftwaffe field unit; here is his information from Graebersuche: Nachname: Reineke Vorname: Heinz Dienstgrad: Obergefreiter Ge...

I thought the battle scenes for band of brothers were pretty good. The only reason they didn't show American troops getting creamed was those guys perobably didn't survive. We talking about the type of unit that draws fire, gets tossed into the breach and sees a lot of action. I peticularly enjoyed...

What is Deutsche Feldpost about?

My German is not good enough to figure out this site:

http://www.deutsche-feldpost.com/

What is the difference between it and the Feldpost-Archiv (http://www.feldpost-archiv.de/), which I do understand?
