Kukurutz
Servus! My ancestors are Volksdeutsch from the Banat in Yugoslavia. I grew up learning German with a dialect from that region. I have been able to find the origin of many of the words common to that region but have been unable to find the origin of the word KUKURUTZ . It is word for corn. Recently I...

Panzergrenadier vs Panzer
Servus,
Why were the SS Panzer Korps Divisions designated Panzergrenadier Divisions rather than as Panzer Divisions in mid 1943? They were stronger than most of the Wehrmacht Divisions. Your thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any input.
Regards,
Helmut

Re: New 11. Pz Div history "Ghost Division"
Servus, I have bought a lot of German language books over the years and I could never figure out why such excellent books had such poor maps. A lot of them had, as this book apparently has, hand drawn maps. While better than no maps at all, they are , in my opinion of poor quality considering how mu...

I got mine yesterday also. I upacked it and it looke like one of those big dictionaries you see in a library. I suspect I'll need a book stand to read this beast.

Re: Material for books needed
Two other interesting photos. "Guarding the Führer at the new Reichskanzlei" and "Ehrenwache am Grabmal der Gefallenen der Waffen-SS". Yes, Reinhold had a very interesting career. Simply elite like our both families and his third daughter. Does anyone know where this Grabma...

Servus,
When was the 2 PZ. Armee moved from AG Center to the Balkans? What was the logic behind the move? it just seems odd taking Panzer Army and sending it to the Balkans never to be used with tanks again.
Any thoughts?

Helmut

I know such person such as the the Fuehrer and the RFSS had a Begleit unit but whoelse would have had one? I once read of a DivisionsBegleit Kompanie. What would be their mission? Thanks for you...
