Re: Veterans Day

It is also known as armistice day in some countries, the day World War one ended. A celebration of the ending of a terrible war. It has become over time a celebration of honeroring all war veterans past and present but I think still also a day of peace and rememberance of all those that died in not ...

Re: German officer serving in regular French army after WW2

Yes he was born in Alsace while it was part of Germany (1897 to be specific), served in the 1st world war as a German officer. Here comes to mind another thing, since he was born while Alsace was part of Germany he would have been a German citizen but until he completed the "réintégration"...

I know very little of his service during WW2. No one ever talked about it and now there are few family members that could remember as most of the remaining one were little kids during that time. I know during his service in WW1 he was in the cavalry. There are absolutely no pictures of him from 1939...

I second that question. I would love to find a way to get my Grand-father's WW1 service information. He too was in the German Army. I think I too had asked about Wast but think the response was they only had records on WW2 veterans

The preferable way would be a sort of verification done during the account setup but the information to be known only by the forum management rather than all of the members. A confirmation email when creating an account that is sent only to an address that is from an account that is not a free non v...

German officer serving in regular French army after WW2

I have heard of German ww2 veterans serving the French after WW2 but usually it was in the foreign legion. A few months ago I found paper work showing my grand father servering in the French army from 1946 to 1949. He served in the German army from 1916 to the end of WW1 from 1939 until the french s...

There is also the possability he could have been in different divisions or branches of service or did one stay in the same division from the time of incorporation? The 2nd SS division seem to have had a large number of Alsatians but was that not because have of one class was drafted into the divisio...

These items stored in a closet and I have not looked at the items in several years. if I recall correctly, I have an iron cross 1st and 2nd class, a wounded badge (black if I recall), a oval bad...
