Re: My apologies (now re: Sonderregiment "Dirlewanger")

Those appear to be M43 style field caps and masks made of Army pattern camouflage. The smock appears to be one of many SS variants. The PPSh-41...well the Soviet Union made more than 5 million of them during the war, so they were rather abundant on the Ostfront. However, as to a definitive "Dir...

Re: My apologies (now re: Sonderregiment "Dirlewanger")

1.) At no time did I imply in any way that reinforcements to Kampfgruppe Dirlewanger somehow absolved any member of any crime committed during operations in Warsaw or at any time thereafter. Moot point. My question was again regarding references to "Dirlewanger men" at the time. Was that o...

Re: My apologies (now re: Sonderregiment "Dirlewanger")

1.) I did not discredit all of Sturmpionier Schenk's testimony. I have a handful of questions regarding differences between testimony and some photographic evidence. Thank you for acknowledging that. 2.) Whether I liked or disliked your answer is immaterial. I had/have questions. We both have opinio...

Re: My apologies (now re: Sonderregiment "Dirlewanger")

1.) Testimony, whether a veteran or in a court case, is to be respected. It is also, as any prosecutor, defense attourney, or police investigator will tell you, as often determined to be incorrect as correct by evidence. Hence the trend toward forensic sciences in the present day judiciary. That, si...

Re: My apologies (now re: Sonderregiment "Dirlewanger")

Will,

Your implication that my previous post was somehow disrespectful to Sturmpionier Schenk is rather unkind. I thought I was quite specific in the caveat placed prominently in the post that any questions I had were meant in no way as a slight to him. Unfair and rather unkind.

Good day, sir.

Re: My apologies (now re: Sonderregiment "Dirlewanger")

With regard to the Elbe2 photo, I found it on a Russian military website, posted during a discussion about the 36th Waffen Grenadiers. I have no idea who the SS officers behind the Dirlewanger Grenadier are, though the one wearing glasses certainly went into captivity well prepared by the look of th...

Re: My apologies (now re: Sonderregiment "Dirlewanger")

 Well, I cannot say much for the painted model, other than the rather cartoon caricature of the face. Regarding the Osprey publishing (appears to be Osprey) rendition of a Dirlewanger Schutze in Germany as of March 1945, isn't that simply the grey winter uniform issued to German soldiers? The...

Re: My apologies

God bless all here :-) With regard to the subject of the Sonderregiment "Dirlewanger" during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, and specifically the testimony of Sturmpionier Schenk, I have encountered a few concerns in the accuracy of what he reported regarding the "Dirlewanger" troop...

4th SS Polizei Waffenfarbe

Perhaps someone here could help me...I am given to understand that initially in the war the 4th SS Polizei Panzergrenadier Division wore a standard issue field uniforms, SS pattern camo smocks, standard SS sleeve eagle, but Army fashion collar litzen. If this is the case, what color piping was on th...

Uniform regulations of Cossacks in the German Army

Greetings! Doing some research on Cossacks who served in the German military. Is there an online source that details their uniform regulations? What changes, if any, were made to the regulation uniforms of these troops when they came under the SS toward the end of the war? Oh, and one final question...

Thank you. Are there any details at all regarding issuance previous to that date. And if I am reading you correctly, that date is September of 1944. Any reason why several sources I have read indicated that the date of issuance was in July of 1944? I have always been rather confused by the conflict ...

M-44 Tunic Questions

I had a couple of questions about the M-44 tunic, and was looking for some help. 1.) When was the actually date of general approval and issue of the uniform to soldiers. I have heard July of 1944 and September of 1944. 2.) I have been told that the uniform was field tested in 1943 with six combat un...

Volksgrenadier waffenfarbe

What color of waffenfarbe did Volksgrenadier troops wear into battle. And does anyone know any good internet sites/books that detail the unforms, equipment, and operational histories of the Volsgrenadier units? Thanks.

Tunic question.

I had a question that I hope those here at Feldgrau can help me with. While researching for the potential creation of a late war german reenacting group (Heer) I developed some questions that as of yet I have no answer for. Firstly, I have found two different dates for the issue of the M-44 tunic. O...
