Re: Die Deutsche Divisionen

Helmut,
Depends on what you're interested in. Unit locations, awards, commanders, Ia's, etc., yes. Organizational history, probably not. They're hugely expensive and I think that Biblio has gone out of business so I'm not holding my breath for Vol. V.

Re: Die Deutsche Divisionen

Not so great on the composition of the division over time, but superb maps showing locations and movements throughout the war. Essential if you want to figure out exactly when the divisions moved around.
Usual lists of award winners, commanders and Ia's.

Re: SS-Panzergrenadier Lehr Regiment

Marc,
Do you happen to know when they were formed?

Re: Unit History Reviews

Yeah, I've got 13-14, 18-25 on hand. Don't forget about Stoves' history of 22nd and 25th! Can't find a copy of 10th's history and don't have 11th because PzR. 15's history is much better. Never bothered with 16th's as it's pretty much a piece of shite. Be nice if somebody would do 2nd and 9th's hist...

Re: Unit History Reviews

Richard, So why are you stopping with the first 7? Haupt's book on 8 is pretty cheap, and you could always spring for the 2 volume history that goes for 200 Euros or so! I'm not sure that I really count the history of Panzerjäger-Abt. 38 of 2. PzD. as a history of the division. And I'd never conside...

transfer of SS-IR 9 to Volkhov Front

Does anyone know exactly when SS-IR 9 was shipped from Helsinki to Tallinn? From Trang's book on Thule it appears to be after 8 December '41.

Re: Unit History Reviews

Richard,
Have you seen the 2000-odd pages of the 16th Mot. ID's history?

Re: Unit History Reviews

I've got the first edition; I wonder what the differences are between the two editions?

Re: Unit Hist.

Your grandfather was assigned to a Landesschützen training battalion. The Landeschützen were third-class troops often used in a security or POW guard role. It seems likely that he never finished his training before the war ended. How old was he?

Re: After Stalingrad by David M. Glantz

Since I can barely transliterate simple words like Fighter Aviation Regiment and Tank Corps, I'm hardly in a position to be current on Russian-language material, but I have heard him complain about lack of access to the archives for the last decade or more because he refused to toe the Russian-natio...

Korsun Pocket vs. Hell's Gate

How does Franken and Zetterling's Korsun Pocket compare to Doug Nash's Hell's Gate? I've got the latter, which is excellent, but am holding off on the former until I hear something positive about the former.

Re: After Stalingrad by David M. Glantz

Unfortunately Glantz doesn't do the Germans very well in his histories. Language difficulties since he's a Soviet specialist.

Bayer's Kavallerie der Waffen-SS

Is this worthwhile from an operational and unit organizational POV?
