Here is one of the things that can happen with a hot barrel, this was the last time I shot mine, a year ago!!!! I just sold my collection of German arms, including the MG42 and an all matching MP40 among things.

If original to WWII, I doubt that maker marks during the war had "GmbH" on them. That is the American equivalent of "Incorporated", never seen on any 40's era stuff..........................B

both the 34 and MG42 can be fired from the hip, the sling is attached to the grip only. It is slung over the right shoulder and the gun is held close to the belt line or lower, allowing the sling to support the weight. The left hand then holds the bipod out at an angle to control the muzzle movement...

Do you have a pic of the Eagle stamp? I have never seen an 8mm round with the German Eagle stamped on it. Usually manufacturer, year of production and some other sparse numbers.
