A silly question.

Hello,
I only know the poststamps from quality photos but, no matter how long I look at them, I cannot tell the difference between the Kurland 4A and 4B!
Thanks in advance,

Aitor

Many thanks Alex! :D
I've got the Wehrpass but not the Soldbuch and the last year of the war is missing (unrecorded) from the Wehrpass. :x
It is not from a relative but I am interested on retrieving as much information as possible, anyway!

Alex, sorry if this question is a bit out of topic but, if you have a soldier's Wehrpass, can still more useful information be received from WASt?

Thanks,
:D

Memories from Kurland

Sorry if this is an already well researched topic but, after reading what the books say, I think that it would be great to recollect on one topic individual memories from the Kurland campaign. (No, I don't intend to write a book! ) Stories from veterans or sons of veterans -Germans, Latvians,...

Now I've been able to see Oberleutnant M.'s shoulder strap. It is outlined in the red artillery Waffenfarbe. Therefore, he was still in an artillery unit at the end in Kurland. Well, after all, Stugs were artillery but I suppose that by then he didn't belong to the destroyed Schw. Artillery Abteilun...

Great to have that information! Could you, please, widen it? The source I had read (i.e., Werner Haupt) seems always to paint an almost idilic realtionship between German troops and the Latvian population, which has always looked to me rather suspect... But it is true that Latvians were trapped betw...

Well, I've visited the WASt website and I've found out that (if I have understood it well), I should wait until 2008 if I want to ask for information about that man's military career. That is because he died in 1998 and his data are protected by law until a period of 10 years or more after his death...

Richard, I bought the Erkennungsmarke mostly because it belonged to a know soldier and because his relation with the Kurland Kessel. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the cuffband (And it was a beautiful original woven short one!) :( :x It would have been fantastic to get the Soldbuch, but it wasn'...

Many thanks, Richard, His number in 1/Schw. Art Abt. 616 was 23. I am really interested in knowing more details of the military career of this man, but I got the Erkennungsmarke from his family and, therefore I don't feel free to reveal publicily all the data :( . Yes, I've got the number, I've got ...

Thanks Richard! :D Thus, if 'my' man joined the Wehrmacht in 1938, his dog-tag (it is pretty well attacked by sweat acid) in 1945 could still be the first one he received or eve one belonging to the hypothetic intermediary units to which he was adscribed in the meantime... In any case, in Kurland he...

Changing dog-tags?

Hello, I've recently bought a dog-tag from a known owner which poses (at least for a beginner like me!) a riddle. 1/schw. Art Abt. 616 Not much problem: First company Schweren Artillerie Abteilung 616, If I've done my homework correctly. The problem is that the unit was destroyed at Stalingrad and, ...
