Arnie, sorry I did not catch your note sooner. You passed the FPN to me. It is 35360 listed to the Pol Bglt. Btl. Steiermark. In addition, the unit is listed on p.326 in Mehner's book "Die Waffen SS und Polizei 1939-1945" but without further info other than name. In addition, I have a copy...

How would the Polizei Begleit Btl. Steiermark fit into that scenario? Were the Waffen SS units successively committed to combat and their places ultimately taken by the older clases forming the police batallion?

I have been looking for references to this unit. It is probable the name was associated with the code name of Himmler's HQ train- Sonderzug "Steiermark". In the biography "Himmler" by Roger Manvell and Heinrich Fraenkel, a guard batallion is mentioned a few times. Himmler alleged...
