Gruppenfehur Arthur Nebe

Hi all... I am looking for information on Gruppenfehur Arthur Nebe. Specifically his escape and whereabouts after the 20 July 1944 plot. I have read that he hid in a hut in the Wanssee lakes region and was turned in by a girl friend, however I can find nothing further. Any help would be appreciated....

Ran accross this operation in a magazine. Google doesn't seem to have anything. Anybody know about this attack. I think it was on the AG North area.

Best book 2007

I know it was published years before, but I only read it in 2007-An Infantryman in Stalingrad. What a great read.

If you look on the side of German fighter planes you can see "87" which was the octane rating-sort of like in regular cars today. The US provided "100" octane to Britian and the USSR and it really helped performance. One story involved the Aug 1, 1943 raid on Ploesti, where a US ...

Thanks Patrick, I will check those sites. Man can you work in wood. I liked your examples. I read an account of German POW's in the US during WWII, and they could not believe how wasteful the US was of our forests. Just shows how long the German's have had to depend on wood. My parents had a cutting...

I am reading "Hell's Gate" about the breakout at Cherkassy in Feb 1944. I came across a term about the military hiking stick presented to favored officers by their units. Does anyone know of a book (in English) on how to carve one of these things. I have seen two photo examples and they ar...

Great General Staff WWII

Has anyone seen any recent book (in English) on the Great General Staff? Specifically I am interested in their work prior to WWII. I was looking for their schools, training, and staff work. I have read Gorlitz and Dupuy's books and was wondering if there is anything new. Any suggestions would be app...

Heer General Staff Officer Uniform

Hi, I am having a discussion (friendly) with a friend on the uniforms of a German General Staff Officer (OKH/OKW). He says that their trousers had a double, broad red stripe like a general officer. I say that based on a picture I saw, the color was darker and the stripes were quite narrow. Were ther...

WWII an oil war? I would say it was the major element. Just a few items: 1) In the US, the war's largest defense contractor was General Motors, with Allison engines and Ford next in line. 2) My father was in the 3rd Photo/Mapping sqd USAAF. He suspected that a lot of mapping areas were selected by o...

I heard somewhere that when some of the SS personnel heard the order they put their cuff-bands and the arm of a corpse in a latrine bucket and sent them to Berlin. Old rumor.

Christopher...let me explain-I believe the purpose of this post was to discuss the seriousness of the SS training. I mentioned the book "The Black March", by Peter Neumann-a lieutenant in Wiking, that during training he had to dig a trench before some tanks rolled over him. This is serious...

In reference to live-ammo, didn't the book "The Black March" talk about the Waffen SS officer cadets having to dig a trench before a light tank rolled over them? I don't remember the author's name, but he was a pre-war candidate at Bad Tolz. Also does anyone know of the pre-war cirriculum ...

Reb....Huie's book says his written confession and previous criminal record counted against him. The other 99 shot in the ETO were guilty of murder/rape. Slovack's body was returned to the US several years ago after the Martin Sheen movie.
