Dogtag ID number

Is there a way to tell who the soldier was who owned a dogtag by the number and unit on a german dogtag?

My history professor gave me one that he found in a plowed field in Russia along with a few other items.

Question for Rudi or any Vet

During the War, what medals did you recieve and what medals did German soldiers tend to take the most pride in. (obviously, wound badges weren't sought after, but i suppose would be looked upon w/ honor!)

thank you,
john
