A rare case indeed!

Obviously, a rare case where it is actually mentioned, in print, that the Allied soldiers murdered German prisoners. Interesting.....I wonder how many accounts mentioning what the Russians did to their German prisoners are in print?

No, I am not selling this book. I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of this book (on eBay) & was just wanting to let fellow Feldgrau posters know about this great book, so that they might seek out copies too.

Cheers,

Craig.

Reb, I have read (cant remember the book off the top of my head) that (especially) the Einzatsgruppen recruited heavily in the Baltic states due to an underlying anti semitism that existed there. They greeted the Germans as liberators against Bolshevism + gave them the opportunity to rid their villa...

Hi Sid, I guess my interest in the WAFFEN SS lies not so much in why they existed or why they were created but more in their actual existence & what they did during their existence, the battles they fought & the personnel and personalities that made up the WAFFEN SS. I am sure they did dupli...

G'day Reb, Yeah, we all have our personal preferences. as I said I am a novice when it comes to military history; a keen interest in the Third Reich, particularly the WAFFEN SS but certainly no expert. Thats why I like this site because it gives you alot of info & the chance to interact with man...

G'day Reb,

Each to their own I guess, if everyone's personal preferences were the same, it would be a boring old world.

Cheers,

Craig.

I would be interested Sid to see what history (in regards to Germany's role in WW2) is taught in German schools today. From what I have read, there are very tight restrictions on things such as making a Nazi salute (which I read somewhere is now a jailable offence, could be wrong???), which I think ...

G'day Sid, I have the Leibstandarte book & a Wiking book by Rupert Butler & I have found them to be well written & easier to read (not as dry) than some of the books by military experts or historians. An example of this are the books by Michael Reynolds (Steel Inferno, Sons of the Reich ...

Hi Christoph, I have formed these opinions just from reading various books, they are my own observations, so I have no specific sources. I have read numerous times that the WAFFEN SS units were better equipped than units of the Heer (EG; WAFFEN SS units being largely motorised compared to their Heer...

They did seem to have quite a bit of respect for each other, although there may have been some "arrogance" demonstrated by the elite units of the WAFFEN SS, on some occassions (them being far superior to their comrades in the army). One might also assume there would have been some jealousl...

I actually found something interesting (contary to what I had read before) on what the Leibstandarte thought of the 6th Australian Division, when they faced them at the Klidi Pass, on 10th April 1941; "For many of the SS men, this was their first sighting of Imperial troops, whom one Leibstanda...
