Re:
PS: I don't want to shove down ones throat one viewpoint or the other... But if you think about it that the propaganda WWII started much earlier then 1939 and Guernica was made to such a symbol of german maliciousness...why not hear the other side for once too? Especially as Adolf Galland never was...

Re: Battle of Britain movie (1969)
I think we will never see a war movie of this magnitude anymore.... Oh I dunno - depends on how much money a studio wants to plow into a production. There are more restored Spitfires flying now than in 1969, for example - I think they gathered over 50 at Duxford the year before last from all corner...

Translation of Karteikarte (scan attached)
Hi I'm trying to understand the Karteikarte for a deceased relative, but I only understand some of terms (Name, Vorname, geb. am, Truppenteil, Dienstgrad and Rangdienstalter) because some of the letters use the old script:

Re: Nachschub versus Versorgung units
Hi all, I am in the process of using Google translate to understand the unit listings in Mueller-Hillebrand's "Das Heer". Have run across several unit descriptions that appear to translate the same but I'm sure are different meanings. Can anyone explain the difference between a Nachschub ...

Re:
I don't know of any SS General talking back to Hitler to his face, but Sepp Dietrich and Felix Steiner disobeyed his direct orders to spare their men, and Wilhelm Bittrich told Rommel after Normandy: "We are being so badly led from above that I can no longer carry out senseless orders. I have ...

Discriminatory policy towards practicing Catholics?
My mother once told me a story about her older brother (who eventually died [as far as we know] on the Eastern Front); apparently he was dissatisfied with not being promoted from private to corporal, and once on leave from Russia (going back to Lower Saxony) he got off the train in Berlin and went t...

ok thanks for the response.
i guess the complexity in terms of the current case lies in part with how voluntary his 1) original "volunteering" to the Hiwis was, and 2) his promotion to "active SS" was…

Was Demjanjuk really in SS?
I'm noticing the recent appearance of stories about John Demjanjuk in the news again, and I'm wondering how he could have been in the SS? I mean, he was supposedly a Soviet POW (of Ukrainian origin) who "volunteered" for service under the Germans in order to avoid dying in a POW camp. But ...

Pictures of underbellies of Me-262 airfield protectors
I read that the underbellies of prop fighters assigned to guard the airfields at which Me-262s landed and took off were painted bright red with white stripes in order to avoid being shot down by the flak batteries stationed there...does anyone have or know of a picture of one they can post (preferab...
