You could start out by doing living history and then use that as a gauge to find out what sort of interest level there might be in your area. Living history opens up a lot of venues to you, like airshows, militaria and gun shows, and so on.

Did soldiers in the SS-Polizeidivision wear police collar patches at some point in that unit's history? I seem to recall reading that somewhere.

Have a look at the links page on At the Front. You may be able to find some units in your area. Most units are affiliated with one of the larger reenacting organizations.
