Re: The 27th Waffen SS Volunteer Grenadier Division Langemarck
I think the bottom picture of the book cover were showing SS panzergrenadiers from the Charlemagne SS division at Pomerania in early 1945, not Langemarck If they are Charlgemagne then you know they are NOT panzergrenadiers. My bad. I should have said that they are Waffen-grenadiers from the Charlem...

Re: Evolution of WW2 Eastern Front historiography
I forgot to mentioned that there are also several outstanding European researchers that focus on the Eastern Front but most of their books had yet to be translated into English notably Bogdan Musial, Kristian Ungvary Eastern Front studies used to be the domain of German military historians and a sel...

Evolution of WW2 Eastern Front historiography
Hi all, There seems to be an evolution of the historiography of WW2 Eastern Front military history studies. Starting from the mid-2000s there seem to be several new independent historians who had published several really good studies on the military history of the Eastern Front in WW2. 1950s to 1970...

Re: New David Glantz book being released!
I have not read Stahel, and it is unlikely that I will due (unless some library accessible to me has them)to the very negative reviews of his books by R. A. Forczyk on Amazon. I agree with Jochen that Musial's works should be translated into English. There is also a very interesting collection of e...

Re: New David Glantz book being released!
Frank Ellis book on Stalingrad and Operation Barbarossa is nothing but brilliant! i am planning to write a review for both of them in future but to summarize some of the good highlights of both these books: The Stalingrad Cauldron - a combination of war diaries and memoirs of selected German and Sov...

Re: New David Glantz book being released!
I do not have Glantz's latest books on the Stalingrad trilogy and the Smolensk but i have read the excerpts and I am not particularly impressed since there are no news thesis being espoused by Glantz and just rehash of his older works. However, I do give credit to Glantz for being able to bring the ...

Execution of German soldiers by Field Marshal Ferdinand Schorner
Hi all, Does anyone had any additional info with regards to this incident below: At Lednice, Czechoslovakia, on May 7, 1945, Schörner was reportedly present when his goons shot 22 German soldiers for “standing around without orders.” Note the date: Hitler had been dead a week and the war was all but...

Re: New David Glantz book being released!
Hi Klaus Sorry to say I wouldn't put too much hopes on Glantz's book. His earlier works are good but not that outstanding but the ones he is currently churning (the Stalingrad trilogy etc) out is just an old rehash using the same old Soviet/Russian sources which we all know it could be questionable ...

Re: Strafvollzugslager der SS- und Polizei
Hi Stuart Many thanks for giving us a sneak peek on your book's content. I believe this is the first book in English to deal with such topic and I believe many of the folks in Feldgrau would be interested in it. Just curious, although your book seems to focus mostly on SS penal system, would it by a...
