Anyone know anything about the man, birthplace, is he still living, other decorations? What was his speciallty day fighter, night fighter, or maybe bomber pilot? If an ace what was his kill total? Thanks for any info.

Did Gen. von Manstein's help establish the Bundeswehr?
I had read something once that he was consulted on numerous occasions while serving some type of prison sentence in the 50s about the new german armed forces. Has anyone else read or heard about this? What did Manstein do, also was there thought of him being asked to lead in the new Army?

Just finished it, a very interesting read, the guy is truly unappoligetic about his supposed service in the LAH or what one would call today revisionist thinking. Just was wondering what others think of this book.
