I read an article on this in a magazine in the late 80' or early 90's. I think it was in Smithsonean or Invent or Invention magazine. It was about a German battleship. There are also 3 German POWs buried at the Fort Lewis Cemetery south of Tacoma Washington. I have photos of the tombstones but do not know any further details on any of them

German POWs buried in Seattle
I found that 4 German and 1 Italian POW are buried in the Seattle area at 2 different locations. I took some photos at one location and did some research for weltkriegsopfer.de. Is this information you would like to have?
