Thanks Loic.
Does anyone have any information on no. 1 Spanish Pioneer Company, as it was used primarily in this role? I am assuming it was one of the Alien Pioneer Companies of Britain.
Cheers,
John K

Hi CAPND95, There is a book on Canadian pow titled In enemy hands by Dancocks and I know that he interviewed men who had been in at least one of those two camps. Unfortunately, the particular camps were not what I was concerned about when reading it. I'll try and dig it out and see whether he mentio...

Re: Boots and Shoes
Hi Rick, I think a good place to start would be with Bata which was at the time the largest producer of footwear in the world. Besides the factories in Czechoslovakia, during the pre-war period they had established factories in France, Holland, Germany and Poland because of the rise in tariffs durin...

Re: The Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V Question?
Hi postofficeworker, While I am not an expert I would say that the reason would be the lack of the British regimental system, ie as long as a landser stays in a unit from the same wehrkreiss he is very interchangeable whereas a commonwealth soldier generally only changes at most between battalions i...

Hi chelski,
There is a link in the forum world war I thread Re: U K's German War Dead cemetery and German POW s on Raasay that indicates that they were all reburied in a single burial ground in England.

Re: Asthma
In the book "the nazi war on cancer" it implied that if you were no longer useful to the Reich it was best if you just were not treated. It was my understanding that it was specifically those who suffered from what is now called post traumatic shock syndrom that 'euthanasia' was to be appl...

I was listening to an interview with director Martin Scorsese and he indicated that the reason he avoided the draft was his childhood asthma. This got me thinking as to what would happen to you if you reported on your draft notification and you were not considered fit. I mean that as the years go by ...

Zoglinge
Hi guys,
I have come across a reference to zoglinge in an old notebook of mine. All the note says is ' ss auxillary anti-aircraft brigades composed of 14-17 year olds, in 1944 non-aryan boys and girls conscripted'. Any more information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
John K

Re: Belarussian/Ukrainian/Russian Volunteers in Wehrmacht etc.
I am not so sure that Belorussians or Ukrainians were any more thrilled to be under Polish rule than those under Soviet rule. I do not have any great knowledge on this subject but it has been my impression from reading that being of a non-Polish ethnicity in Poland was not pleasant.

Re: Russian Use of Terrorism in WWI
Wasn't Stalin originally an agent provocateur paid by the Czar's secret police? The idea being that it was more effective to choose where you were going to be attacked so you can be prepared to counter it and possibly destroy the threat.

Re: USA troops in Russia 1918
Hi Henrik, I am most familiar with the intervention along the Siberian Railway this comprised a brigade of British and Canadians, French troops mainly from their colonies in Indo-China, Americans and over 100, 000 Japanese. The reason for this particular intervention was two fold firstly like the ot...
