You'd better believe it's the same Ron Volstad. And the Dragon box art is the least of his fantastic work; but I bet it pays the bills regularly.

Leopard

Sorry, but the Panther hull with a Puma turret was called the Gefecht Aufklärer Panther(Vorschlag). One version of the true "Leopard" was the VK3001(P) Typ 100 designed by the Porsche and Nibelungenwerke organizationswhich led to the development of the VK4501(P) vehicles which led to the d...

Good list, Jeff. And there are at least four listed who would more than likely wear the standard Field Service uniform instead of the Panzer uniform.

Pink Waffenfarbe on Doppellitzen

One problem is Jeff and Pieter are making the same mistaken assumption: that pink was only worn by Panzertruppen. Pink was also the Waffenfarbe of Motor Park units of all kinds, especially Armored Recovery Units(the guys on the big FAMO halftracks). Most of these troops would have worn the standard ...

First, from reading GPT by Jentz and Doyle, I do not think the three-pipe exhaust indicates an Ausf. A with crew heaters. To the contrary, I think all Ausf A's had the crew compartment heater and this exhaust modification was installed after they found using the heater overheated the engine by diver...

Third Reich feldgrau was always a greenish shade. When the new uniform was introduced it was almost called feldgrün, but feldgrau was retained for traditional reasons. The WWI color is gray, but the WWII version pretty much is a green color all the way to almost OD at war's end. The reed-green HBT i...

My ignorance is at an end! Here is Mike Pruett's reply to my email: Hello Paul, I checked the link you supplied and since I use NETSCAPE (BLAH!) The photos sometimes obscure the text. To answer your question (brief answer) the Infanterie Divisions (mot.) did in fact have a Panzer Abteilung. In the c...

No it isn't that common. These photos are few and far between. The largest use of W-SS camo was by HG and that was a one time issue.

I still do not believe that any Infantrie Division had armor in 1943. My quick research indicates that the 3rd Panzer Division under the 4th Panzerarmee (Hoth) would have been operating in the Woronesch area. This would make this vehicle part of the 6th Panzer Regt; not 6th Panzergrenadier Div. This...

I posted this in reply to your same request on Third Reich Forum: Here is a brief summary of photos of Flammenvernichter fitted on Panthers: Achtung Panzer #4: Pp26, 27, 43(sketches of all types of fitted Panther exhausts), 77 Concord Panther: Pp. 37(color plates), 48, 50 Schwere Jagdpanzer-Spielber...

The Flammenvernichter were first fitted at the MNH factory on Dec. 8, '44. These were the exhaust recuperator systems that prevented the flames from being visible. The original round shields seen over the exhaust pipes were for shielding the red glow from the hot pipes; but the exhaust pipes stuck o...

I also have read, in various sources, of vehicles or units scheduled for Africa sent instead to the Eastern Front to replace un-anticipated losses painted with RAL 8000 gelbbraun, or later with RAL 8020 braun. So to see photos like this does not surprise me. It seems to me that all the reports of du...
