Re: any good bookshops on military/aviation topics in Amsterdam?
I know I am replying to myself, but I heartly recommend the ¬Luchtvaart Hobby Shop, also known for the much more English-friendly name of -The Aviation Megastore- http://www.aviationmegastore.com . Huge, fantastic selection on aviation topics, also for modellers. It lies off the city, but a 15-20 mi...

any good bookshops on military/aviation topics in Amsterdam?
I will shortly be going to Amsterdam and would like to know if there are any good bookshops on military and aviation subjects, as well as economic history of World War II there. Besides English, I can read any Latin language (except Rumanian), German and even Dutch (preferably if there are lots of t...

Some considerations
Definitely worth the price. I think it is worth pointing out, however, that its emphasis is not on personal action accounts [i.e. veteran's stories], but on the employment of Tigers. The main point the author makes is that the Tiger was conceived as an offensive weapon, but was employed mainly in th...

Nipe, Glantz and Newton
First of all, I haven' t read Nipe, so I can't really say much about it. His book defends the theory that Manstein was about to break through in Kursk, when Hitler pulled the rug from him. Personally, I think that is ridiculous when you consider the huge reserves the Soviets possessed: only as far a...

Nowarra and Boog
Dear Michael, I have ony browsed through Nowarra' s book in a second-hand bookshop. IIRC, it was a general description of all types of aircraft and equipment (i.e. engines, weapons, electronics, etc) used by the Luftwaffe, but no production numbers, except in very general terms. Useful as a referenc...

Try Nihon Kaigun's site
Ironically enough, Nihon Kaigun' s site, dedicated to the Japanese Imperial Navy, (http://www.combinedfleet.com/kaigun.htm) has an absolutely fascinating study on factors affecting battleship gunnery, covering, among others, the Bismarck class. Well worth a look. For technical details of all aspects...

German Aircraft Industry and Productio
Not worth it, I am afraid. There is actually a lot of interesting information in the book, especially as regards production plans (one thing people do not realize is that in those pre-computer times, a production plan involved a hell of a lot of work and planning and was actually a major command sta...

Thanks Feldherr, the title seems very interesting. I'm picking it up at the library today.

Domarus
Halder is right about Domarus. He is a basic source. The books have been translated into English, but are very expensive (USD 300+, IIRC).

books on Kursk
In English, the best work is Glantz's. Steve Newton's book is excellent, despite some errors of fact (Ferdinands in the South, IIRC) but, as the work consists of a series of essays by German participants linked and complemented by comments from the author, if you don't know the battle already, you w...

They seem to have a spectacular catalogue, but I'd like to know some more before buying anything.

If you can read German, try...
Joachim Hoffmann. He wrote "Die Ostlegionen 1941-1943: Turkotataren, Kaukasier und Wolgafinnen im deuschen Heer" and at least one other book on a similar subject. They are rather scholarly, from before his break with MGFA. In English, Axis Europa has, I believe, published a book about this...

Reviews of volumes 4 and 5 of DRZWK
A few more things... Volume 4 is about the beginning of the soviet conflict. Could you point me to a website which would extensively review this voulme? Having 1200 pages it must cover the subject extremely well. Does it have any flaws? I also found http://thinks-global.com/cgi-bin/books.pl/item-01...
