more on the Wormhoudt Massacre --from Axis Forum

Below indicates futher evidence of Wilhelm Mohnke as prehaps the most prodigious instigator of Waffen SS war crimes in the West....being that the LSSAH was only a regiment at this time, one must wonder what Sepp Dietrich's role was in possible issuance of an order that day to shoot POWs. However, kn...

"...And that is if indeed they were recruits. Their commanding officer when they surrendered was Ustuf. Heinrich Wicker. He is one of those killed by the Americans. Apart from Dachau he served in SS-Totenkopf Standarte 1, with the SS-WVHA in Natzweiler-Struthof, Cochem and Mannheim-Sandhofen. N...

More... Thank you for your responses. I agree with TH Albright in regard to the lesser attention generally given to war crimes perpetrated by Wehrmacht units versus Waffen-SS. On the other hand - as you see in the italian example - the dimensions of the crimes of the 16. RFSS-Division were not match...

P.S. here is Carlo G's post on WSS and Heer war crimes in Italy.... Like other occupied countries in Europe, Italy experienced during its occupation by German troops mass executions of prisoners, reprisals and savage massacres. Their victims were partisans captured during mopping-up operations as we...

To add "nuance" to Sid's thoughful analysis of WSS war criminality, I have dusted off an old reply of mine from the Axis History forum.....as follows."..I applaud C.G. for his research on the Italian atrocities he documents; I didn't realize the extent of the HG Division's involvement...

Hi Paul...IMHO I would guess that Eicke intended to use the guard troops in at least a paramilitary role from 1935 onward, after his first massive reorganization of the early SS-Totenkopfverbande (SS-TV). At this time, he started massive transfers of older, less fit guard personnel to roles in the c...

Gentlemen...one thing we must remember, is that Eicke's "camp guards" were almost fully militarized units whose junior officer leadership by 1937-38 was heavily populated by SS-Juncherschulen graduates and some ex-SS-Verfugungstruppe officers. Providing perimeter security for the camp and ...

The SS-Totenkopfdivision was originally formed in Oct-Nov 1939 from cadres from the original three SS-Totenkopfstandarten, which indeed provided guard units for KL Dachau, Buchenwald and Sachsenhausen. These men comprised about 40% of the division's personnel, the rest being drawn from the A-SS, SS-...

This forum is not about neo-Nazi, anti-American polemics. Comparing Bush to Stalin and Pol Pot is not only ludicrous, but insulting! Cease and desist. This forum is for reasonable people and should not be injected with this sort of hyperbolic venom!!
