more on the Wormhoudt Massacre --from Axis Forum
Below indicates futher evidence of Wilhelm Mohnke as prehaps the most prodigious instigator of Waffen SS war crimes in the West....being that the LSSAH was only a regiment at this time, one must wonder what Sepp Dietrich's role was in possible issuance of an order that day to shoot POWs. However, kn...

More... Thank you for your responses. I agree with TH Albright in regard to the lesser attention generally given to war crimes perpetrated by Wehrmacht units versus Waffen-SS. Like other occupied countries in Europe, Italy experienced during its occupation by German troops mass executions of prisoners, reprisals and savage massacres. Their victims were partisans captured during mopping-up operations as we...

At this time, he started massive transfers of older, less fit guard personnel to roles in the c...

The SS-Totenkopfdivision was originally formed in Oct-Nov 1939 from cadres from the original three SS-Totenkopfstandarten, which indeed provided guard units for KL Dachau, Buchenwald and Sachsenhausen. These men comprised about 40% of the division's personnel, the rest being drawn from the A-SS, SS-...
