myth/ stereotype ?
I´ve read that a majority of members af W-SS, including officers, were from farmer families and came mainly from rural areas in Germany and Austria, Michael Wittmann for instance, but off course 70 years ago most people were farmers...

Thanks for the link, I´ve checked the feldgrau statistics for AFV-production as well, and this adds up to about 45.000 tanks, stugs, self-propelled AT guns, and jagdpanzers of all models produced for the wehrmacht from Pz 1 to the Jagdtiger.Which would imply that compared to the ca. 37.000 Pak´s pro...

I read somewhere, I can´t remember where off course , that Pak´s accounted for most tank kills (75 %) I´ve mentioned this here at feldgrau, but most agreed that Stug´s, jagdpanzers and tanks accounted for most tank-kills, does anyone know how many Pak´s of various models vere produced ?. My point is...

I´ve received some color photos of german vehicles in original colors from Paul Hanson, and I ´ve played around with the Jadpanther photo in Photoshop and it seems that you´re absolutely right about the green color. It turns out that the original photo is in fact tinted slightly red, as is common wi...

I suppose the "low" number of kills of the individual "panzerknacker" is due to the fact that you´d have to get within a range of 30-100 meters from the tank to even have a chance of a hit with a panzerfaust (they came in a number of versions with different range : 30, 60 and 100...

I can´t argue with other peoples perception of colour, but I´ve seen several versions of this photo, none of which makes it look green to me, if it is green it is a very dark shade of green, that´s not the shade of "olive green". The original argument for dark gray coloring on 1945 vehicle...

There must be some truth to the stories about dark gray paint jobs as is seen in this very well known photo of a Jagdpanther. It´s definetely a late war picture as the Jagdpanther has the late production mantlet and it´s overall color looks more like dark gray than dark red or olive green. http://ww...

The text that comes with the pictures in "Tigers in Combat 1" (which in this case are taken from private archives, i.e the crews themselves) clearly states that they are from Schwere Pz. Abt 509, but It really is difficult to decide if they are wearing Italian army camo (which would be qui...

From most accounts I think it is fair to suggest that Hitler was a psychopath with strong manipulative talents, to get his will was the issue, he would charm, beg, taunt, fool, bully, belittle, beg, rave , - whatever, to achieve this, in his own words "he was the greatest actor in Europe",...

I think both Argentina and Paraguay used the M40 for their armed forces, Argentina was a popular refuge for german veterans after WW II, this included both war-criminals like Adolf Eichmann and war-heroes like Hans Ulrich Rudel (who had trouble finding work in Germany due to his fame in the Third Re...

My answer would be 4-5, I´m Danish and my father was 14 years old and my mother was 10 when the war ended, so they lived through the german occupation, my grandfather was a social democrat (Denmark had a collaborating social democratic government during WW II) and with the resistance in Denmark (the...
