I'm not sure of the others, but at the beginning of the war Himmler used an FW200 set aside just for him.

How prevelant was the influence of these organizations in Brazil?

Brazil was one of the Allied countries and was a major base for U-boat hunting in the South Atlantic.

Yes, and we SHOULD let that area drop.

The British had a large number of women who served in the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service or Army), the WRAF, and the WRN. I don't think they would appreciate being compared to the aformentioned ladies.

I'm not sure, but I didn't notice the cowls being painted during the Phoney War or the Battle of France. It seemed to start during the Battle of Britain.

It was probably either a Staffel or Gruppe memo that was sent out, stating 'Paint the engine cowls for identification between us and the RAF'.

Thanks, Wiltaz.

The idea of cowl color equaling staffel color doesn't work though.

I've seen yellow noses on aircraft with red numbers.

Battle of Britain engine cowl colors.

Taking into account the painting of Me109 engine cowls for quick identification in combat, were there any other reasons? Such as unit identification? I've seen yellow, orange, and white used.

British Royal Marines also manned the after turrets on cruisers and battleships. So in addition to providing landing parties, etc. they were also part of the ships active crew. It was not uncommon for a friendly rivalry to exist as to who were the better gunners.

Patrick has already stated the obvious.

One has to get the sections through tunnels and either through or over bridges. Railroad bridges do have weight limits also.

Size limitations would have been the main reason for not being able to do this.

I remember reading about the SS also getting such a tatoo.

It was by the armpit, if I remember correctly, but I can't remember which one.

Hope this is of some help.
