French Army B, Sept. 1944

Does anyone have a detailed oder of battle for French Army B (soon to be French First Army), for September 10, 1944, or close to it ? I know it had the French I (1st Armr Div, 1st Inf Div), and II corps (3rd Alg. div and 9th Colonial div.), but thats about it.

thanks,

Cantigny

I finally had a chance to visit the US First Infantry Division museum, at Cantigny park, located in Wheaton, IL. While I had known about the tank park and the gardens, I didnt know until recently that they had archival information related to the 1st infantry division. The library is located in the b...

Re: New (possibly) Lage Ost Maps Discovered at NARA

In the back of the cartography room, to the left, they installed a large map scanner, maybe 3-4 feet wide. I had some oversized maps from some FMS documents scanned. You have to have the cartography personnel scan the maps for you, so it costs $$$, but it was relatively cheap.

Re: New (possibly) Lage Ost Maps Discovered at NARA

I would ask that anyone going soon (I should be there in April) should collectively try and assemble a complete index of what is available, and try and figure out how to get these digitized. Aaron has indicated that these are probably too big for the map scanner on the cartography floor, and I am un...

Re: Heeresgruppe C documents

Check stumpanzer.com for guides to NRA records. You are looking for guides to the T311 series (hrsGp). There are a large number of HrsGp C records available depending on the time frame.

T312 R1566 f000217. May 1, 1944. PM me if you want me to send it to you. There are a few for earlier months of 1944 if you need them, too.

Re: Maikop 1942 maps

There are more than likely Lage Ost maps for the time and location. I dont know how much it costs to have NARA copy them for you, but you can check them out on the cartography floor at NARA/College Park and scan them for free. There should be Russian maps on the subject, and they might be available ...

Re: Heeres-Küsten-Art. Abteilung 145

THis is the first time I have heard of the MGFA - I had assumed all military records were at BAMA. Is there any sort of index that indicates the holdings at MGFA ?

thanks,

Re: OCR

I have tried several programs (Adobe Acrobat, etc) for text capture and even in English I have yet to get better than 80-90% correct on a decent document. I someday hope the technology will improve.

Re: h.Fla.Btl.607

Another good catch, Hero. While the gliedering of 1st Army for July, 1943 shows the unit as self-propelled, the unit symbol for September 1944 while part of 19th army is motorized. I didnt pick up on that before.

Re: schnelle abt.602 and 608

Hero, once again I am in your debt. I was about to post the KSTN # I found (thanks to help from Piet Duits) for 602 and 608, but you have already posted them. One small difference is that for a gliederung I found for 602 and 608 on October 1, 1943 (LXXX corps - T314 R1583 f008) is the presence of a ...

Re: zollgrenschutz btl.

Hero, that is a great job finding the website. I never thought of doing a web search for a site on German border police btl. The internet still amazes me ! : ) I was looking through the site and I have a file on (VGAD?) Stern - does it look like the web owner is looking for info ? I also note he has...

Re: zollgrenschutz btl.

How about a KSTN for grenzschutze unit ?

I have the KSTN rolls from NARA, bit given the organization, I really have a hard time locating units without a number. One of these days I would like to organize the material there into a searchable database.....

19.SS.Police.Rgt.

In the fall of 1944, the 19th Army controlled the 19th SS.Police.Rgt. Is there a known TOE or KSTN set for this unit ? I know it theoretically consisted of 3 Btl., with some regimental support Kp.

thanks,
