Ah, Good call Phylo. I wasn't the million miles away that I thought I may be!

I was thinking the dimensions in the first pic were wrong if it was a cut down Mauser...even did a wee mock up in Paint (!), and proved my theory. And BTW, a cut down M98 looks alot like a No. 4 Enfield!

Hi Folks, Not that I'm any great shakes at this sort of thing, but I'm sure thats some kind of Mauser. The stock is pretty distinctive, IMHO. But the shortened barrel? I'm gonna go with a modified Mauser M98, with the barrel cut waaay down, modified for a child? Most likely wrong, Happy Hogmanay eve...

Fair enough, Jason. It was a strongly worded comment, and I'll remove it.

And I would counter, anyone who can sense the nuance of a sentance, wouldn't have written a long winded, "look at my knowledge" reply. Lets imagine an Ost front novice, (Not you Uli, I'm being rhetorical again *edit*) who somehow stumbles on the question that the Romanians may have been at...

Uli, I was asking, ironically, if the Russians attacked the Romanian lines by chance. Your gargantuan post only confirms my earlier, concise statement. Carl, Phylo, for Italy to have remained a true neutral, they would have had to erase the 1930's, Mussolini, and the Spanish Civil War. No matter who...

Phylo,

I do remember reading one account where a British WWI cemetery was cared for thoughout the occupation by the Germans. I'll try and look it out. I also have a feeling they looked after the Menin gate, or some other Ypres monument.

Cheers,

14 of the 15 points Austro-Hungary delivered would have been accepted. The demand that Austrian police conduct an investigation in Serbia would have never been accepted in that day and age. It would be tantamount to letting "spies" into your country. I'm not sure what your post is aiming f...

Hi,

From looking at the above links regarding the original post, shouldn't this thread be deleted, and the user banned? He has already been banned at Wehrmacht Awards.

Sorry, was being slightly obtuse. Yes, there was 3 (I think...damn Carlsberg) Romanian divisions at Stalingrad. Don't get me started on them though. Brave men, but by no means up to Wehrmacht standard. Coincidence that the Russians chose to attack where the Romanians were? Ill be back to this...need...

I'm just off to bed, but I'll come back to this tomorrow. I'll still hint towards the respective military strengths of the aforementioned countries, and ask whether holding them back (in the event of a potential attack - unlikely IMO) would have used less, or more, manpower than was used in subduing...

Yeah, thats the one I was thinking of. Mannerheims expression whilst Hitler was giving a speech was priceless!

Aaah, the Kondor. In my experience, anything that good looking will have flaws under the surface. ;)

I see where you are coming from Phylo, and understand that it would have caused massive instability, but the only fatal problem I can see in my hypothesis is that the Allies curry favour with the entire Balkans, and then launch 'D-Day' from that area. Highly implausible, and unworkable. Germany coul...

What sort of being are you, Sniper?? I, at all times, have my palms in front of me...

Seriously though, I'm interested to know whether snow ramparts are an effective defence, or whether they would have to be 100ft wide.

Phylo, thats a good point, but I'll ask this - Even if the entire Balkan/Southern Europe area had become unstable, with no Axis intervention - even with Allied support, what harm could it have done to Barbarossa? 1/3rd of the troops Germany employed in that area could have protected a (hypothetical)...

Guys, Tom loves all your comments, and as a result has invited you all to a seminar on 'Police Brutality'. It's tomorrow, at 3, in his garage. And if you could all make sure you brought your health insurance cards, that'd be just swell.
