I can offer no evidence, but I would have thought that the very high muzzle velocity of the 88 would have made it a most unsuitable gun for indirect fire. The panzer's being gas guzzlers is not very obvious ether. The panzer IVs were roughly TWICE as eff in thier gas milage then the sherman tanks.
